Lancet Clubtail (Gomphus exilis)

It looks like this male clubtail had a narrow escape.

Dorsal detail of the terminal abdominal segments. The dragonfly's overall length of about 45 mm, the color and pattern of the segments, and the shape of the claspers, conform to the illustrations in my field guide for a Lancet Clubtail (Gomphus exilis). Also note the profile of the claspers in the lateral views above.

The female's abdomen is more robust but lacks the clubbed tail.

Two views of another female.
