First Dragonfly of the Year

Springtime Darners (Basiaeschna janata) started making an appearance in early May. The dragonfly's relatively small size, early flight time, black and white patches at the bases of the wings and the yellow thoracic stripes boldly bordered by black are it's key identifying features.

This is a female; the styli are visible the lateral views.
